The Fiber Optic Patch Cord and Its Application

Publish Time:2021,02,07

The fiber optic patch cord (also known as optical fiber connector) means that connector plugs are installed on both ends of the optical cable to realize the movable connection of the optical path, and only one plug at one end is called a pigtail.

The application of fiber optic patch cord:

OM1 and OM2 have been widely deployed in buildings for many years, supporting Ethernet transmission with a maximum of 1GB;

OM3 and OM4 optical cabling products are usually used in the wiring environment of data centers, supporting the fast ethernet cable transmission with 10G or even 40/100G.

OM5 has a thicker protective layer and is generally used for the connection between optical transceivers and terminal boxes, and is applied in some fields such as optical fiber communication system, optical fiber access network, optical fiber data transmission as well as local area network.

OS2 can be applied in high-density wiring environments in data centers, CATN, FTTH, WDM/DWDM, passive optical networks, and other fields.

The multi-mode fiber technology has developed from the original OM1 multi-mode fiber to the multi-mode fiber that now supports 100G/200G/400G, which can be seen that the development of the network is always advancing and developing.
